Ham & Cheese Stromboli

This stromboli is easy, delicious, and the perfect weeknight dinner. It’s also very customizable.  If you’re not familiar with stromboil, it’s what you typically see in the food court of the mall at the Italian pizza place. It’s very common that stromboli is made with the usual pizza ingredients, but I’ve switched it up a bit!

Here’s my take on stromboli, featuring ham and lots of delicious cheese. 🙂

Ham & Cheese Stromboli

Begin by making the pizza crust as featured in My Quick & Easy Pizza Crust post. Refer to that post if you’re looking for step-by-step pictures. Otherwise, if you want to use already made, refrigerated pizza crust, feel free to do so!

Once your crust is prepared, spread it out onto a greased jellyroll pan. In this case, a mini rolling pin comes in very handy. 🙂 If that doesn’t work for you, just spread it out with your fingers.

Then, layer out some deli ham onto the crust. You can also use cubed ham, sliced turkey, roast beef, etc. Add the cheese of your choice as well. I used ham leftover from Easter, because yum, and colby jack shredded cheese.

I squirted some honey mustard on top, and sprinkled a bit of both onion powder and garlic powder. Again, make it your own by using a bit of your favorite condiments and seasonings. Just be careful not to add too much liquid or it will make it a bit soggy.

Then, just roll up the stromboli like a log. Be sure to tuck in the ends to prevent too much goodness from leaking out during baking. If you feel so compelled to do so, you can even seal the edges with water.

At this point, I usually pour a tablespoon of milk out into a small cup, and use a pastry brush to carefully spread the milk over the top. Then, I sprinkled some cornmeal on top as well.  You can add a bit of seasoning here, too, if you so desire.

Use a knife to cut some slits in the top to allow some venting.

Bake in a 400 degree F for 25-30 minutes. Be sure to keep an eye on it towards the end to prevent it from burning.

Also, this is the point in the cooking process when I realized I forgot the importance of putting aluminum foil down first at this recipe. Don’t be like me; otherwise, you’ll spend 15 minutes scrubbing a pan when you really want to be relaxing after dinner. (No resentment here, though. :))

Ham and Cheese Stromboli


  • Pizza Crust Recipe or refrigerated pizza crust
  • Sliced ham
  • Shredded cheese
  • Honey mustard
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • 1 tbsp. milk
  • Cornmeal

Prepare pizza crust according to directions. Spread the dough onto a greased pan into a large rectangle. Spread ham and cheese over the crust to evenly cover the dough, leaving a border around the outside. Add condiments and seasonings of your choice. Roll up the stromboli into a log, pinching the edges shut. Brush milk over the top of the stromboli and sprinkle cornmeal on top as well. Bake at 400 degrees F for 25-30 minutes. Enjoy!

This is the definition of comfort food and never fails to please. I promise, you won’t be disappointed!
